Suitable for beginners as well as those wanting to develop their knowledge and skills, week one sets the foundation and teaches the core skills and techniques and how to put them into practice. Week two takes these skills to a more advanced level – bigger, more challenging hand ties, large vase arrangements using props such as urns or candelabras, culminating in a large installation or seasonal piece executed as a ‘live’, group project.
A trip to London’s New Covent Garden Market at Vauxhall in the first week is included where students will experience wholesale flowers and pricing at its source.
Technical aspects will naturally be covered throughout including flower conditioning, wiring, composition and proportion, how to safely handle equipment.
The course culminates in a group challenge to design and execute a piece from scratch. Students use their newly learned skills to establish budgets, sourcing, planning, logistics and finally execution, presenting to a ‘client’ for assessment.
